Maui Day 1

I FINALLY got the much needed sleep I had been dying for! My husband opened up the curtain to find beautiful, but overcast Maui! I had the most difficult time getting up! Since we didn't sign up for any shore excursions the night before, we decided to make today a lazy day. By the time we got up, showered and dressed, it was 10:30 am. Our main objective...FOOD! We hadn't eaten since lunch yesterday! Sadly or first choice of the Aloha Cafe was shot down because they stopped serving brekkie at 10:00. So we went off to the 24 hour restaurant, the Cadillac Diner. The Cadillac Diner's breakfast faire was none too exciting. We both had omelets and two tiny hash browns. After that disappointing brekkie, we went down to the Shore Excursions desk to see what we could sign up for. We later to the order form with us to the pool so that we could enjoy the view...and a cocktail! I didn't think about it then, but we were having cocktails before noon! Of well, I'm sure it was 5:00pm somewhere! After having cocktails poolside, we turned in our shore excursions form. Since we had a late start today, thee only thing we could sign up for was the Haleakala Crater at Sunset. Our next stop after the Shore Excursions desk was lunch at the Aloha Cafe. Merely an hour after or insufficient brekkie, we went to a buffet! I can't say that this buffet was all that great. Then again, when are buffets ever really that great? My eyes were bigger than my tum-tum when it came to the desserts. As much as my mouth wanted to finish off the chocolate flourless cake, chocolate chip bread pudding, and white chocolate mousse, my tum-tum said, "NO!" When my hubby and I had our fill of food, we went off to play table tennis. Now I'm not used to playing sports with itty bitty racquets! Needless to say, I was horrible at it while my hubby was going at it like Forest Gump! As frustrated as I was, I continued on 'coz I needed to work off at least SOME of what I ate at the buffet! After working up a good sweat, we went back to our room to freshen up for our first shore excursion. Our first excursion was the Haleakala Crater at Sunset tour. We had the most entertaining tour guide. He was full of information and gave us a free CD of the music he was played during our tour. Sadly when we got to the top of Haleakala, it was raining! The romantic sunset over Maui that I was hoping for was ruined by rain! :-( The whole time going up there I kept hoping that the clouds would part the higher we went up. Nope.com!! OMG, IT WAS FREEZING up there!! We were warned in advance to bring a jacket or sweater, but we weren't expecting rain. The altitude plus the rain made it crazy cold up there! After I took a few pics up there, I went straight back into the bus while my hubby went further up the crater. When he came back, he was soaking wet! I told him not to touch me coz I had aleady dried off. The bus ride back was uneventful. I then began to remember how nauseous I get riding on buses. I couldn't wait to get back on the ship! I even tried chewing on done him hoping the mint would help make me less nauseous. Thank God for that otherwise I think I might've urped! We went back to our state room for a little rest before going out to dinner. We had a fancy shmancy dinner at Skyline Restaurant. I had a NY strip streak with green beans and baked potato while the hubby had the Atlantic saLmon and spinach. The setting of the restaurant was supposed to be like 1920's NYC. The columns all looked like a skyscraper. I only recognized the Chrysler Building and the Empire State Building. We took a picture next to this beautiful wall that was black with giant turquoise leaves that lit up. I plan on painting our room that shade of turquoise when we get back. I think it's a real soothing color, very appropriate for a bedroom, don't you think? That's it for now! TTFN!!
